September Contest Entry for Scrap Freak

After taking some time off from Scrap Freak I realized how much I missed it so I am back. I decided to enter their Monthly Layout challenge.

Here is my entry:

I tried to use a little of everything on this and am pretty happy with the way it came out. I actually did the layout on a very thick piece of chipboard so I could hang it in my scrap room.

Paper- Scenic Route (blue), Pink Paisley (the owl cut out), Cosmo Cricket (yellow) and KI (orange hand cut brackets)

The hearts and keys are grungeboard covered in Making Memories paints then stickled.

Felt swoosh and flowers from Fancy Pants.

I made the house from some left over chipboard and covered it with scalloped strips from SU scallop edge punch.

Journaling reads:
While I always dreamed of owning my own home, I had no idea how profoundly it would change me (and not just by emptying my pocketbooks) I feel like a real grown up- A home owner! It's given me a sanctuary, a nest, a place to create and hopefully will become a place to raise a family. I love my Home Sweet Home!!!

I've been a card making fool!

Ive been trying to build up my card supply for the upcoming craft shows. Stupidly I made about 20 more cards I forgot to get pictures of before handing them off to Virginia.

The World is ending!

There is something I am LUSTING after at Walmart!

I NEED This! All of it! It is just absolutely stinking perfect! And the name of the line??? Stockholm. Like Sweden aka the land of IKEA.

Suddenly I wish I had gotten the White Expedit instead of the brown so it would match better cause there is no way that beast is coming out of that room anytime soon.

Ok so I don't really NEED it nor do I really have a place to put it (well I could actually use the book case and the smaller cabinet piece) but it was a shock to come across something so hip and cool at Walmart of all places!

Whew- I need a weekend to relax from my weekend!

I had an uber fun and productive weekend!

Friday night my DH surprised me by taking me to the Gwinnett County fair. While nothing overly exciting or special about this fair, we both just love the whole atmosphere- the rides, the games, the food!

We even got the opportunity to handle some sugar gliders. I think we were both amazed and impressed at how cuddly and friendly they seemed to be even being handle by the masses at the fair. Fortunately cooler heads prevailed and we didn't get a set (since of course they do better in pairs.) The $400 a piece price tag helped too. For those of you who may not be familiar this is what they look like:

Saturday was my spend all day crafting day! I haven't sat down and made cards in a while and with the holiday season fast approaching it was time to start getting down to business. I knocked out 28 various occasion cards and did some planning for my Stampin Up workshop this coming weekend. I was so tired that I didn't take pics so I will post them later. I still haven't settled on designs for Christmas card sets this year but I need to finalize those pretty soon as well.

Sunday was the standard housecleaning, get ready for work, do some electronics rewiring, go on a brief outing to Costco and lunch sort of day. My husband found a really cool possible Christmas present for my nephew.
He has very fond memories of riding one just like it as a boy. I think with a 2 year old and another set to be born in Dec it might be a great investment for a way for the boys to play inside during the cold Maine winters.

Its hard to believe that the holiday season really is right around the corner but it is. Somehow this year has just FLOWN by! Next thing on the agenda- start digging out Halloween decorations!

Slacking Again...

Sorry I haven't posted in so long. I spent almost an entire week in New York visiting with my brother Aleks, SIL Tiffany and my ever delightful nephew Kristopher. It was Kris' 3rd birthday. I hate living so far with them so I just absolutely treasured every second I was there.

Kris is just an adorable little boy who loved to read (well he would drag out every book he owned and insist I read them to him -his favorite by far was Dr Suess' My Many Colored Days) and play on his new "computer" we bought him for his birthday. We got him the Leapfrog clickstart computer you hook to a TV since they only had a laptop and he is still a little too rough to play nice with it.
It was really amazing to watch him learn how to mouse- something we as adults just take for granted. It took him just a few hours of intermittent play to figure out that the cursor and his hand movements were connected and how to then click on what he wanted. He loved several of the built in games as well as the Nemo cartridge we got him.

I also got a chance to see a friend from High School who I had lost touch with over the years. She was several years behind me but we still became very close friends and she also shared a very close friendship with Aleks as well. It was amazing how much and yet how little we had all changed. It was an absolutely wonderful way to spend an afternoon!

I will post pics as soon as I get a chance to work on them. Oh and speaking of pictures- Kristopher LOVES to take photographs as well- and some of them are actually quite good. I will have to share those as well. It was a real trip to see the world through his eyes- what he thought was important- the different perspective of someone who is only 3' tall etc. I found it very eye opening. My mom actually bought him a small digital camera of his own to encourage him in his pursuits.

So now that I have come down from my trip and recovered a bit on housework and bills and such- I hope to get back to posting more regularly. Next Up - I HAVE to get ready for my Stamp Club meeting on Sept 20th, start gearing up for Christmas card season and last and most importantly- Not loose my mind waiting for my Disney Trip on 10/4!!!
